(FP170) The Marchisio Crusher & Destemmer is designed to process your grapes for optimum body and flavor. The rollers are set the proper distance apart for crushing the grapes with just the right amount of force. The grapes go through the crusher and then fall into the destemmer portion where over 90% of the stems are quickly removed automatically. The pulp comes out the bottom and the stems come out the side. The Marchisio Crusher & Destemmer is easy to use and will process 2,200 pounds of grapes per hour with normal, manual cranking. Just dump whole clusters of grapes into the hopper and start cranking the wheel. There’s no adjusting or set up needed. All you need to do is attach the hopper to the unit and start cranking. Clean up is a breeze also; just hose it down and your done! How does it work? The grape clusters are sent through the rollers by rotating paddles within the hopper. The crushed clusters then fall into an elongated trough. The trough has perforated holes that allow the pulp to go through but not the stems. Inside the trough is a series of paddles that spin at a high rate of speed. These paddles slap the pulp through the holes, while at the same time, forcing the stems out the end of the trough. Both the crusher and de-stemmer operate simultaneously with the single cranking of the wheel. Why is crushing and destemming important? Proper crushing and destemming is an important step in making stellar homemade wines from fresh grapes. Over-crush your grapes and the wine could end up excessively laced with bitter tannins. Under-crush your grapes and you could be wasting flavor. Likewise, failure to sufficiently destem your grapes can also lead to excessive tannins and a bitter outcome. The Marchisio Crusher & Destemmer is a professional piece of at home winemaking equipment. It is manufactured by Marchisio S.p.A. of Italy and is a recognized world leader of winery equipment since 1950. Details: This crusher & destemmer can handle 2,200 pounds of grapes per hour. Q Ben (Elm Mott, TX)
I was looking at your crushers on your on-line catalog. Does the crusher/de-stemmer crush just grapes, or can it be used to crush other fruit, as well? I saw that the Stainless Steel Fruit Crusher does all types of fruit, but I also liked the idea of having a de-stemmer.
This product will crush fruits that are similar in size to grapes. Unfortunately, it will not de-stem any fruit other than grapes.
Q Clayton (Warrensburg, MO)
We want to keep grape hulls and juice together for fermentation, does this unit allow the hulls to pass through and not the stems?
The crusher/de-stemmer crushes the grapes and separates the stems from the juice and pulp. The juice and pulp will come out of the bottom of the unit and the stems will come out of the side.
Q Ken (West Salem, WI)
I am interested in ordering this product. Is it easy to adjust the gap between the rollers?
The rollers cannot be adjusted. The rollers are set at the factory specifically for use on grapes.
Q Rene (Mazon, IL)
Is this crusher/de-stemmer designed to sit on a stand or directly over a large open collection vessel (such as a 40 gallon food grade garbage can?
You will need to have each end supported on some type of stand and then place your collector container under the unit. Or you may purchase the De-Stemmer Catch Stand.
Q Jim (Everson, WA)
I would like to know, there are countless types of grapes, many of different sizes. What I am wondering, the paper work says that there is no setup required. Does this unit work on any size grapes? For example, the small Chablis types.
Yes, any size or type of grape can be used in our Crusher/De-Stemmer.
Q Name (Kristi, Centerville, IA)
Does the paint on this product chip easily? I am afraid that it will chip and begin to rust.
The paint on our Crusher/Destemmer is sprayed enamel. Enamel is a hard surfaced paint. It is no more likely to chip than a car paint.
Q Shane (Alexander, NC)
Is it hard to turn the cranking wheel when crushing the grapes?
It takes very little strength to turn the cranking wheel.
Customer Reviews"lack of proper info." Review by baraittna (Posted on 9/1/16)
To collect the juice separate from stems is a serious problem. It would be great if there was a short video showing how the separation actually takes place. The explanation on site is not helpful and perhaps misleading. I have not tried it yet, not knowing what mess I will make."Love it but would like to motorize it" Review by Uncle Jerry (Posted on 8/28/14)
Bought the crusher and stand 5 years ago. Put over 80 crates of grapes through it and it works great. However, the young assistants who do the wheel turning complain that it is not motorized. Too bad there is not a conversion kit to motorize it."Picture and stability are issues, not happy about that! " Review by Picture is Not Accurate (Posted on 7/27/14)
The product does not match what you order in color and stability. It works relatively well, some stability issues with weak frame. I ordered and all red matching crusher and destemmer and got a beige and green with a white stand! Not happy about that, also it had marks on it as if it was used and put in box and sent to me, again not happy about that. Packaging was not very good screws were everywhere and we were missing some had to get them to send me more, not happy about that."Glad I bought it" Review by John (Posted on 6/10/14)
I have used this crusher/de-stemmer for two seasons now, and am very pleased. I crush about 350-lbs of grapes each year and the amount of stems in the result is just about right...not too much, not too few. I also purchased a stand and added two sway braces to make the unit very stable. If you purchase one of these you will wonder how you ever got along without it."BIG time saver!" Review by Kimmy (Posted on 1/11/14)
I got this crush/destem from kraus this pass summer. Mine is green a beige like other reviewers stated. But I looked closely and it's the exact same model. I have 20 vines and it worked perfectly. Left nothing but a few pieces. Works very fast! So glad I finally got this."I second if I received the right product" Review by ted (Posted on 9/19/12)
I received a beige/green destemmer. It had some marks on it that gave the impression it was used before."Did I receive the correct product?" Review by LT (Posted on 9/17/12)
It did work well, able to crush 180lbs of grapes in about 15 minutes. While I filled up a small trashcan of stems from it, there were about 15% of stems still got into the mash.
No instructions or pictures of assembly came with it either. So it just adds to time to figure it out . You have to look at the picture on line to figure out where to screw the parts in . would be helpful to have assembly instructions and cleaning tips.
The destemmer crusher I received did not look like the one on the website. It's not red, but beige, has a slightly different design and has no manufacturer's name on the product ie it's not Italian. One carrying handle was slightly bent, but since it was packaged so well, I don't think it happened in shipping---some other marks makes me wonder if it had been a return?"Crush Me & DeStem Me....... Quickly" Review by MikeC (Posted on 6/22/12)
With that said, the product worked quite well for my small vineyard----sure beats doing it by hand! I would have rated the product itself higher if
This is a great time saver. What used to take hours and hours by hand turned into a 10-15 minute operation. It was very effective and efficient. Clean up was really easy. Good quality product. I process a few hundred pounds of grapes at a time.
